Brussels for Parliament

As you may know (or not) there exists a stubborn ritual within the European Parliament which consists of moving the whole Parliament from Brussels to Strasbourg a couple of days each month. The only reason for this is that France wants it so much. The cost of this procedure, approximately 200 million euros a year is largely paid for by the other member states anyway, or actually, by the European taxpayers.

This is why a couple of Member of Parliament from different parties and different countries have launched a campaign to put a stop to this ridiculous waste of money. They will need one million signatures on their petition to be able to get this item on the agenda of the European Commission.

Please go to: www.oneseat.eu and place your signature so we can put a stop to this ridiculous waste of funds and the circus of moving the parliament to Strasbourg. At the moment of writing this mail there are already 716.091 European citizens who have signed the petition.

    Kleiner Hinweis.
    Es gibt die europäische Unterschriftensammlung ala “Mit 1-Million Stimmen kommt es auf die Agenda” Sache nicht. Steht nirgends und ist ein Gerücht. Selbiges gab es übrigens schon bei Studiengebühren.
    Ansonsten natürlich ne feine Sache… wollt nur sagen, dass es keine europ. Rechtsgrundlage gibt, dass sowas dann auf die Agenda kommt.

    Über dieses völlig bescheuerte Ritual habe ich neulich einen Bericht gesehen… Gehört selbstverständlich abgeschafft. Schade, wenn Robin da recht hat – aber trotzdem hilft vermutlich jede Unterschrift ein Bisschen ;-)

    Die Parlamentarier selbst wollen den monatlichen Umzug wohl durchgehend nicht – alle sind da wohl regelmäßig sehr genervt. Vor ein paar Jahren haben sie wohl auch versucht, einen der zwölf Termine im Jahr einzusparen und sind gerichtlich (Europäischer Gerichtshof oder so) dazu verdonnert worden, doch hinzufahren…

    Stimmt so ist es. Aber ändern können dies nur die Regierungschefs der europ. Mitgliedsstaaten. Also wäre wohl eine Unterschriftensammlung an Merkel wirkungsvoller…
